SCAM ALERT

Wednesday, February 25, 2026

Please be advised that some debtors in bankruptcy cases have been contacted by a caller purporting to be from the Court asking for an installment payment.  The caller often spoofs the phone number so that the call appears to come from the Bankruptcy Court.  The caller asks for payment via cash app (such as Zelle or Venmo, etc.) or pre-paid credit card.  The caller may sound convincing, using the Court's real address and real names of Court officials.

THE BANKRUPTCY COURT WILL NEVER CONTACT A DEBTOR BY PHONE TO REQUEST PAYMENT.  THE BANKRUPTCY COURT DOES NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT VIA CASH APP OR CREDIT CARD.  Debtors should not provide these callers with any personal information, account numbers, or money.

The Bankruptcy Court sends payment notices by U.S. mail or electronically for those who have opted in to Debtor Electronic Bankruptcy Noticing.  Anyone receiving a suspicious call may call the Court directly at 616-456-2693 to confirm the legitimacy of the call.
